Class B and C Appraisals are used to evaluate the gaps between an organization’s processes and CMMI requirements. Typically, organizations getting started with CMMI will utilize a Class B or C appraisal to establish a baseline and generate improvement plans. Class B and C appraisals can also be used to update baselines (fostering continuous improvement), to verify progress and to prepare for a formal appraisal.

Submitted by upaliwaghmare on May 9, 2007 - 2:09pm.If you go for class b then you will know what are the gaps . CMMI will tell you what you need to do to reach that level.
If you directly go for SCAMPI A then there is a chance you may not pass it.
I am not sure about cost. that depends on various factors, parameters.
